Background/Overview of Event
 
  • Embarking on its 7th year, the Ocean Drive 5K Run is a South Beach-infused, world-class running event that raises money for caner research and awareness.  With more than 1500 runners last year, the run has become one of the most exhilarating and charitable events on Miami’s South Beach
  • One of the most populated and beautiful landmarks, Ocean Drive is shut down to the public in the peak of the season to form the most unique and picturesque oceanfront race course in the world.
  • The Ocean Drive 5K Run, which provides excitement and incentive for its sponsors and race participants, is the final heat in Florida’s 10-race running series which includes the world-famous ING Miami Marathon.

Dates/Time/Location
 
  • The 2009 event will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 8:30 am on world famous Ocean Drive.  A post-race party will take place immediately following the 5K at South Beach’s renowned Nikki Beach.

Giveaways/Silent Auction/Awards

 
  • Each registered participant will receive the following:
    • Access to the post race party at Nikki Beach with   complimentary food, beverages, and massage
    • Potential to win valuable prizes throughout the awards ceremony following the race
    • Access to high end silent auction featuring unique sports memorabilia and luxury vacation packages at post race part.
  • Special awards will be distributed to the top three male and female finishers from each age group

Attention, geeks! Pry yourself from your computer and put on your neon spandex. Destructoid.com invites you to join Miami's biggest video game community in person (for once) as we raise money for the Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation in 7th annual Ocean Drive 5k Run. Suck at running? Afraid of sunlight? No need to worry: Fitness-impared noobs can walk/jog down the allocated "Geek Circuit" path, optimized to keep your feeble frame intact and safely away from the grunting alpha males. Come out March 7th 2009 to meet some geeks, shed some pounds, help a great cause, and cheer on a guy dressed in a giant robot costume jogging for charity. Cosplayers welcomed.

Timing & Scoring System
 
  • Race is chip timed, so results will be accurate. Please make sure you pick up your chip at the registration tents
  • Krieger Watches is the official timekeeper of the Ocean Drive 5K Run

  • Race starts on corner of Ocean Drive and South Pointe Drive, heads West to Alton Road then makes a right onto Jefferson Avenue.  A right turn is made at 1st Street followed by a left hand turn onto Ocean Drive.  There is a left-hand turnaround at 15th Street and the finish line is at 1st Street on Ocean Drive (adjacent to Nikki Beach).

Models/Cheering Section
 
  • In an effort to enhance the already gorgeous atmosphere of Ocean Drive, cheerleaders will be located throughout the race course to provide support and cheer on race participants.
